As a biometeorologist for the US government NOAA in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Dennis frequently traveled to a number of countries, conducting research, attending conferences, and making presentations. In 1999 he joined the faculty of the University of California at Berkeley as a professor of biometeorology.
