Notes for Anthony Joseph GRANATA
Tony Granata was a very experienced hunter in excellent physical condition (6' 1" tall, 205 pounds). He was killed when he fell off a cliff while hunting big horn sheep in Alaska's Wrangell mountains, about 240 miles east of Anchorage. The accident is related in "Great Rams III, Chronicles of sheep hunting and legendary sheep hunters'" a book by Robert M. Anderson. The chapter about Tony Granata is entitled "Death Alone: The story of the strange disappearance and lonely death of Tony Granata." Four years after Tony's disappearance, his remains were spotted by a helicopter pilot. His rifle, backpack and wallet were recovered. An exposed roll of color film that had been left in McCarthy contained a self-made photo of Tony behind a trophy bighorn ram that he had killed a few days before his untimely death.
